Tesla<\/a><\/strong> Shanghai Megafactory is its first battery storage facility outside the United States. This plant near Gigafactory Shanghai produces Megapack batteries for the Chinese and global markets. Each Megapack has a 3.9 MWh capacity, enough to power 3,600 homes for an hour. The factory’s initial annual output is set at 10,000 Megapacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mike Snyder, Tesla’s vice president, emphasized the factory\u2019s importance. \u201cMegafactory gives us the ability to scale production and efficiency. We can lower logistics costs as well as product costs, and grow the business to new markets,\u201d <\/em>he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tesla Expands in Australia\u2019s Battery Market<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first Megapacks from Shanghai are destined for Queensland\u2019s Western Downs battery project. This project, led by Neoen, includes a 460 MWp solar farm and a 540 MW\/1,080 MWh battery system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tesla is also set to supply batteries for the Calala battery project in Tamworth, New South Wales. This site will feature 138 Megapack units, likely sourced from Shanghai. According to Rosetta Analytics, Tesla accounts for more than 30% of Australia’s energy storage sector. Since 2017, when it released the Hornsdale Power Reserve, dubbed the first “Tesla big battery” in the country, the company has been a major participant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tesla’s Megapacks are projected to spur additional expansion, with the company projecting a 50% rise in energy storage deployments by 2025. Tesla faces competition from companies such as Wartsila, which is developing Australia’s largest battery project, the 2,800 MWh Eraring battery. Fluence, Trina, and CATL are among the other significant participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the rivalry, Tesla’s footprint remains strong. Its early introduction into Australia’s battery sector, combined with ongoing innovation, has kept it at the forefront of the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
