Tesla Hikes Model Y AWD Price, Adds Diamond Black Color

Tesla Hikes Model Y AWD Price, Adds Diamond Black Color

Tesla has officially launched the 2026 Model Y Long Range AWD in the United States. It is part of the new “Juniper” refresh and does not feature the Full Self-Driving (FSD) bundle seen in the prior Launch Series edition. However, this new edition includes a price increase and a whole new paint option. Tesla’s redesigned Model Y AWD now starts at $52,000, $1,000 higher than its predecessor. Previously, the Model Y AWD Long Range was priced at $50,000, but was eventually reduced to $48,000 before being discontinued. This makes the Launch Series edition, which came with FSD and premium accessories, appear like a surprisingly good deal in hindsight.

FSD and Extras Drive Up the Cost

Adding extras has driven up the price, even though the base price has risen.

“The new Model Y AWD is $12,000 cheaper than the Launch Series but lacks the bundled features,” According to EV analysts.

Buyers who add FSD, Acceleration Boost, and other expensive equipment can increase the final price to about $65,000. Early users of the Launch Series get greater features for a lower price.

Tesla fans hoping for a more inexpensive updated AWD trim may be disappointed, but there is some relief ahead.

A $7,500 federal tax credit is still available for the new Model Y, despite its higher cost in the United States. After applying the tax credit, the effective base price falls to $41,490. This keeps the Model Y competitive in its class, particularly among consumers seeking long-term savings and EV subsidies.

New Diamond Black Paint Option

To sweeten the deal, Tesla unveiled a new exclusive color: Diamond Black. This hue, described as “deep jet black with variations of sparkle and refined flake appearance,” is more rich and textured than the earlier Solid Black.

Tesla wrote on X, “Diamond Black is now available for Model 3 and Model Y in North America.”

The color adds $1,500 to the vehicle price. It replaces Solid Black and is available in the U.S., though it has yet to appear on Tesla’s Canadian configurator. Along with Diamond Black, Tesla has brought back Deep Blue Metallic for the new Model Y.

These adjustments are consistent with Tesla’s overall renewal strategy, which includes terminating the Launch Series and switching to normal orders. While Canada awaits these possibilities, the U.S. market gains first access to these aesthetic enhancements.

Diamond Black is expected to have the same popularity as past special selections. When Tesla introduced a white interior option for the Launch Series, it was out of stock for the majority of its availability time. Similarly, Diamond Black may be in high demand, particularly with its sleek, glossy glitter.

The 2026 Tesla Model Y Juniper redesign features a more refined design, better color options, and a higher price. While it lacks the advantages of the Launch Series, government incentives and stylistic modifications make it competitive. This fresh version continues to appeal to consumers of striking finishes and futuristic features.
