Tesla Supercharger: the giant station in Yermo, a world record

Tesla Supercharger will reach a historic milestone in March 2026. Tesla Supercharger is set to install the largest charging station ever built in Yermo, California, featuring over 400 charging points. This colossal project, announced on 9 March 2026, illustrates Tesla’s ambitious strategy to support the growth of electric vehicles and the commercial launch of the Tesla Semi in 2026. With this project, Tesla reaffirms its dominance in the electric charging market in the United States and worldwide.

The Yermo project: the Tesla Supercharger XXL

The station in Yermo, a small Californian town situated between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, is set to become a major electric charging hub. With over 400 charging points, it will more than double the current record held by the Lost Hills station (168 points). This giant station will be designed to accommodate both private vehicles and the Tesla Semi, the electric heavy goods vehicle currently in the commercial launch phase. • Location: Yermo, California (between Los Angeles and Las Vegas)
  • Capacity: 400 charging points
  • Previous record: 168 charging points at Lost Hills
  • Compatibility: Tesla Semi and passenger vehicles
  • Scheduled opening: late 2026 / early 2027

The strategic role of the Tesla Semi

The new Yermo station is situated on the Los Angeles–Las Vegas route, one of the busiest transport corridors in the United States. The Tesla Semi, with a claimed range of 800 km, requires a suitable infrastructure to make long-distance journeys commercially viable. The station will feature Megawatt Charging System (MCS) chargers, capable of delivering up to 1.2 MW of power, enabling the Semi to be charged in just 45 minutes. Tesla Supercharger: a rapidly expanding global network

The network now comprises over 60,000 charging points worldwide, spread across more than 7,000 stations. In Europe, Tesla is preparing a major upgrade to its infrastructure with V4 chargers (500 kW) and Megachargers (1.2 MW) for the Semi. In France, over 3,000 Tesla Supercharger points are available across around 300 stations.

Competition is heating up: BYD has recently unveiled chargers capable of up to 1,500 kW, allowing the battery to go from 10% to 97% in under 9 minutes. Tesla’s V4 stations are capped at 500 kW, but remain well above the charging capacities of almost all vehicles currently on the market, giving them a considerable qualitative advantage.

Opening up to other vehicle brands

Since 2024, the network has been gradually opening up to vehicles from other brands in Europe and the United States. Manufacturers such as Ford, GM, Rivian, Mercedes and Honda have announced partnerships with Tesla. In France, non-Tesla vehicles can use the chargers via the Tesla app or CCS adapters. This opening positions the Tesla Supercharger as a key infrastructure for global electric mobility. With over 15,000 non-Tesla vehicles charging on this network in France every month, it has truly become a key player in the global electric transition.
