Tesla FSD in Europe: what is the status of regulatory roll-out?
As of early 2026, Tesla FSD in Europe is not yet available to the general public. Drivers in France, Germany and Italy are still using Enhanced Autopilot. The Netherlands has been chosen by Tesla as a testing ground. The RDW had set 20 March 2026 as the regulatory deadline for reviewing Tesla’s exemption applications. If the green light is confirmed, a domino effect could be triggered in Germany, France and Italy.
What Enhanced Autopilot already offers in France

Tesla FSD in Europe: the challenges for Tesla owners
The arrival of Tesla FSD in Europe represents a significant development for Tesla owners across the continent. Vehicles equipped with Hardware 4.0 (HW4) will be the first to benefit from the most advanced features, including city driving and the management of complex junctions. Tesla models manufactured since 2023 are predominantly equipped with HW4.
Tesla FSD in Europe could be offered either as a monthly subscription (currently €99/month in the US) or as a one-off purchase. The FSD subscription would enable Tesla to generate significant recurring revenue from its European fleet, estimated at over 800,000 compatible vehicles on the continent.
The availability of Tesla FSD in Europe would also represent a major selling point for Tesla in the face of growing competition from Chinese manufacturers such as BYD and NIO, which are developing their own advanced driving systems. The race for autonomy is global, and Tesla intends to maintain its technological lead on the Old Continent.
