Tesla now has 3 versions of the Model Y. These 3 versions are distinguished by the battery capacity and the number of engines present on each car. Indeed, the 3 versions consist of :
- Rear-wheel drive version: a single engine at the rear with a battery capacity of 60 kWh
- LongRange version: two engines, 4-wheel drive with a battery capacity of 75 or 78.8 kWh
- Performance version: two engines, 4-wheel drive, enhanced power with a 78.8 kWh battery.
These three versions are manufactured in different locations depending on the factory. The rear-wheel drive version is now manufactured in Asia in the GigaFactory in Shanghai and is imported directly to Europe, while the Long Range versions have been manufactured mainly in Berlin for the past three months instead of Shanghai. Finally, the Performance version has been manufactured in Berlin, Germany, since the beginning of its commercialisation and has never been imported from another factory.
The Berlin, Germany factory has been in the news since the beginning because Tesla’s goal was to offer a state-of-the-art paint booth that could compete with handmade paint jobs. This advantage allows for multi-coating with the ability to apply 12 to 13 successive coats.
The result is the appearance of two new colours for the vehicles leaving the Berlin factory, Midnight Cherry Red and Quicksilver Grey.
Today there is a new development that indicates that Model Y Propulsion is now being manufactured in Berlin, Germany, as Tesla Model Ys made in Berlin are exported to Europe and the Middle East.
The Israel Configurator was updated last night and now shows that Midnight Cherry Red and Quicksilver Grey are available for the Model Y Propulsion and with the clarification that these colours are only made in Berlin, Germany.
The announced timeframe is September – November 2023, so we can expect an official release and update of the configurator for Europe in the coming weeks.
