Tesla is making an important update that could change how owners connect with its Service department. One of the biggest struggles Tesla drivers face is poor communication after their cars have been serviced. Owners are only given two hours of in-app messaging following the visit. This is frustrating because some problems appear later in the day or even the next morning. Calling service centers is also difficult because many regions experience long wait times and limited availability. Recognizing these issues, Tesla has extended the in-app chat time, allowing consumers to contact Service for an entire day or more.
Why Service Has Been a Weak Spot for Tesla
Tesla is known for its inventiveness, but service has always been a weak point. Unlike typical automakers, Tesla does not have service centers everywhere. In other regions, drivers had to wait more than a month for an appointment. Even when service is completed, direct communication is impossible. Many buyers say that calling showrooms to follow up is almost impossible. This leaves customers frustrated and with no clear answers concerning their vehicles.
The Old Communication Window
Previously, Tesla allowed in-app communication with the Service for only two hours after the repair was completed. This technique worked for minor or immediate issues, but it failed when new problems occurred later. For example, if your car displayed a warning light the next morning, you would have to restart the entire process. That meant new tickets, longer wait times, and increased frustration.
The New Update
Raj Jegannathan, Tesla’s VP of AI/IT-Infra, Cybersecurity, IT Apps, and Vehicle Service, announced that the business will shortly expand the in-app chat window. Instead of only two hours, owners will have at least one full day, and possibly more, to stay in touch with Service. This change shows that Tesla is listening to customer feedback and trying to reduce communication breakdown.
This is not the first time Tesla has changed its service model. The company just launched a $45 per day loaner service for collision repair. The loaners even include amenities like as free Full Self-Driving, tolls, and Supercharging. Tesla has launched a test initiative that distributes contact information for local and regional officials. This allows customers to escalate issues concerning warranty claims, estimates, and diagnostics. However, this choice is confined to a few locales.
Tesla also operates a Mobile Repair fleet, which dispatches technicians to clients’ homes or offices. This makes servicing more convenient; however, the fleet size has fallen by 11% compared to the previous year. Nonetheless, it remains one of the distinguishing qualities that differentiates Tesla from other automakers.
Extending the communication time frame might seem like a small update, but it addresses a major pain point. For Tesla owners, easy and extended access to Service means less stress when something goes wrong. It also builds more trust, showing that Tesla is taking steps to improve not just its cars but also the ownership experience.
