Tesla Supercharger 2026: open network, V4 at 500 kW and Megachargers for heavy goods vehicles in Europe

Tesla Supercharger 2026: a quiet revolution in electric charging

The Tesla Supercharger 2026 network is undergoing a profound transformation, shifting from a proprietary network to an infrastructure open to all electric vehicles. With over 75,000 active charging points worldwide and V4 technology now deployed across Europe at 500 kW, the Tesla Supercharger 2026 is establishing itself as the benchmark network for fast charging on the continent.

The 500 kW V4 Supercharger is now available in Europe

Tesla has reached a major technological milestone with the roll-out of the 500 kW V4 Supercharger in Europe. The first installation in the Netherlands paved the way for a continent-wide roll-out. This new standard enables compatible vehicles to regain up to 300 km of range in under 10 minutes. The V3 generation, limited to 250 kW, is gradually being supplemented by these new ultra-fast chargers.

Opening up to non-Tesla vehicles is accelerating

Since late 2023, Tesla has gradually opened its network to other CCS-compatible electric vehicles in Europe. By 2026, this strategy will be fully established: drivers of Peugeot, Renault, BMW, Volkswagen and other brands can use Superchargers via the Tesla app or contactless payment. This expansion represents a new source of revenue for Tesla and improves the utilisation of existing stations.

Megachargers for heavy goods vehicles are coming to Europe

Tesla is preparing a major expansion of its network in Europe with the roll-out of Megachargers using the MCS 3.2 standard, delivering up to 1.2 MW of power. These charging points are designed for the Tesla Semi, the electric lorry which is not yet on sale in Europe but is part of Tesla’s 2026 roadmap. A recent job vacancy at Tesla Europe confirms the active development of this infrastructure.

The Chargemap 2026 ranking: Tesla holds its ground but Electra is on the rise

According to the Chargemap 2026 ranking, Tesla Superchargers maintain a strong position in Europe. The American network takes first place in Germany, ahead of Fastned. It remains on the podium in Spain, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands. However, Electra (the French network) dominates in five European countries, demonstrating that competition in fast charging is intensifying.

Tesla is preparing the 800-volt Supercharger

A major upcoming development for the Tesla network is expected: 800-volt charging points. This technology, already adopted by vehicles such as the Xpeng G6 (12-minute charge), would allow for better compatibility with non-Tesla vehicles featuring 800V architecture. Currently, certain Hyundai, Kia and Xpeng vehicles experience communication issues with Tesla charging points due to the difference in voltage.
