Elon Musk Hints at Tesla’s Flying Car Prototype

Elon Musk has given bold hints that Tesla’s long-delayed Roadster could soon make history not just as an electric supercar, but potentially as a flying one. During his appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Musk revealed that Tesla is “getting close to demonstrating the prototype,” and promised that the event would be “unforgettable.”

The Tesla Roadster, which was first unveiled in 2017, has experienced numerous delays. Originally scheduled for 2020, it is likely to be unveiled by the end of 2025. However, Musk claims that the next-generation Roadster will incorporate technology that has never been seen before in the automotive industry.

The Tesla Roadster, which was first unveiled in 2017, has experienced numerous delays. Originally scheduled for 2020, it is now likely to be unveiled by the end of 2025. However, Musk claims that the next-generation Roadster will incorporate technology that has never been seen before in the automotive industry.

“The Most Memorable Product Unveil Ever”

Musk didn’t hold back when talking about the excitement surrounding the reveal. “Whether it’s good or bad, it will be unforgettable,” he told Rogan. That statement alone has fueled intense curiosity about what Tesla has planned.

This is not the first time Musk has hinted at advanced technologies for the Roadster. He’s previously discussed a SpaceX package that may incorporate cold-gas thrusters, similar to those used in rockets, to increase acceleration or possibly allow the automobile to hover briefly.

Imagine a car that not only speeds like lightning but can also lift off the ground. That’s the level of innovation Musk seems to be hinting at. “If you took all the James Bond cars and combined them,” Musk said, “it’s crazier than that.”

The Flying Car Dream

Musk also referenced his friend and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel during the discussion. “My friend Peter once reflected that the future was supposed to have flying cars, but we don’t have flying cars,” Musk said. “If Peter wants a flying car, we should be able to buy one.”

This quote sums up Musk’s ambitious vision, the idea that technology should catch up with imagination. Flying cars have long been a symbol of the future in science fiction, and Tesla might be the company bold enough to bring them to reality.

Although Musk didn’t confirm if the new Roadster will actually fly, he made it clear that the reveal will speak for itself. Given Tesla’s history of pushing boundaries with electric vehicles, AI, and even rocket technology, the possibility doesn’t sound too far-fetched.

The Altman Drama: A Rivalry Rekindled

While fans were still processing the flying car news, Musk also found himself back in the headlines after responding to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Altman recently posted on X (formerly Twitter) about canceling his Tesla Roadster reservation  a decision he called “A tale in three acts.”

Altman shared screenshots showing his original 2018 order, his refund request, and a failed email delivery notice. Musk quickly responded, confirming that Altman did receive his $50,000 deposit back “within 24 hours.”

The exchange revived memories of their rocky history. Musk and Altman co-founded OpenAI in 2015 as a nonprofit focused on safe and open artificial intelligence. But disagreements over its direction led Musk to leave, and Altman later turned OpenAI into a for-profit company — something Musk has openly criticized ever since.

Their rivalry has only grown more public, with Musk accusing Altman of betraying OpenAI’s original mission. The Roadster post may have been a subtle jab, but Musk’s swift response made it clear he’s still keeping an eye on his former partner.

After years of anticipation, the Tesla Roadster is finally getting close to reality, but not in the way anyone expected. Musk’s comments suggest that this won’t just be another electric supercar. It might redefine what a “car” can be altogether.

Although no date is confirmed, Musk said Tesla aims to demonstrate the prototype before the end of 2025. Fans can expect something thrilling, maybe even something that leaves them looking up, quite literally. Until then, the mystery continues. But one thing is certain: when Elon Musk says something will be “unforgettable,” the world watches.
