Tesla Cybertruck: a strategic production halt in late June 2025
Tesla has officially announced the temporary suspension of Tesla Cybertruck production at its Gigafactory Texas site (Austin) from 30 June 2025, for a period of approximately one week. Contrary to the alarmist rumours that caused the share price to fall by nearly 4%, this decision is purely technical: it involves maintenance and optimisation of the assembly lines to increase the production rate of the Tesla Cybertruck.
Why is Tesla suspending production of the Cybertruck?
According to internal reports, Tesla wishes to reconfigure its production lines to incorporate new improvements to the Tesla Cybertruck. These changes include:
- Optimising the adaptive suspension system to improve ride comfort
- Improving the corrosion resistance of ultra-high-strength stainless steel
- Integrating the latest updates to the Powershare (V2H) system to enable decentralised power supply
- Adjustments to battery thermal management for extreme conditions
- Optimising the powertrain to reduce energy consumption
This planned pause demonstrates Tesla’s commitment to raising the quality bar for its electric pickup, in the face of growing competition from the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T. The Texas Gigafactory will resume production at an increased rate from mid-July 2025.
Impact on Cybertruck deliveries and the order book
Analysts estimate that this week-long shutdown could affect around 500 to 800 Tesla Cybertrucks. With an order book that remains very full, Tesla should quickly make up for this delay once production resumes.
