Tesla Energy: Powerwall and Megapack break all records in 2025
Tesla Energy is Tesla’s most dynamic segment in 2025. Tesla Energy posts record results: the Powerwall and Megapack have broken all deployment records, with 46.7 gigawatt-hours of energy storage deployed over the year, representing a 48% increase compared to 2024. Whilst vehicle sales face headwinds, Tesla Energy is becoming a strategic pillar of the company.

The Tesla Powerwall 3: the residential storage revolution
The Tesla Powerwall 3, launched in 2024, is now available in over 25 countries. This new generation offers a usable capacity of 13.5 kWh, a continuous output power of 11.5 kW and incorporates a solar inverter for simplified installation. By 2025, Tesla Energy had deployed over one million Powerwalls worldwide, a figure never before achieved.
The Powerwall 3 is compatible with Tesla electric vehicles via the Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) function, allowing the vehicle’s battery to be used to power the home in the event of a power cut. This feature is particularly popular with owners of the Tesla Model Y and Cybertruck.
- Capacity: 13.5 kWh
- Power: 11.5 kW continuous
- Solar inverter: built-in
- Warranty: 10 years
- V2H compatible: with Cybertruck and Model Y

The Tesla Megapack: large-scale energy storage
The Megapack, Tesla Energy’s flagship solution, is designed for electricity grid operators and industrial clients. With 3.9 MWh per unit, it is used in large-scale storage projects across every continent. In Australia, the Hornsdale Power Reserve (300 MW/450 MWh) has demonstrated that the Megapack stabilises national grids. Discover the Tesla Megapack at tesla.com.
In 2025, Tesla Energy announced the construction of a new Megafactory in Shanghai dedicated exclusively to Megapack production. This factory will double global production capacity, bringing the potential to over 40 GWh per year by 2026. Megapack orders are at an all-time high, with an order book exceeding $50 billion.
Tesla Energy: a strategic diversification for the company
The Tesla Energy segment now accounts for over 15% of Tesla’s total revenue, compared to just 5% in 2020. This diversification is strategic for Tesla, which is no longer solely reliant on electric vehicle sales. Analysts predict that Tesla Energy will outpace vehicles in terms of annual growth by 2027. This division is fundamental to Tesla’s mission: to accelerate the global transition to renewable energy, particularly through decentralised storage.
Tesla Energy ’s carbon footprint is also remarkable: in 2025, the storage systems deployed prevented the emission of over 8 million tonnes of CO₂, thanks to the replacement of peak-load thermal power stations with storage batteries. This is the equivalent of taking 1.7 million cars off the road for a year.
Tesla Energy and the French market
In France, Tesla Energy is expanding rapidly, notably through partnerships with local installers approved for the Powerwall. The price of the Powerwall 3 is around €9,500, including installation. Government grants (MaPrimeRénov’, CEE) significantly reduce the out-of-pocket cost. With the rise in electricity prices in France (up 85% since 2021), the return on investment for Tesla Energy solutions is becoming increasingly attractive for households equipped with photovoltaic solar panels.
Several major French companies, such as EDF, Engie and TotalEnergies, have already incorporated Tesla Energy Megapacks into their large-scale storage projects. France is aiming for 12 GW of battery storage by 2035, and Tesla Energy is positioning itself as a key player in this transition.
