Tesla Rolls Out 2025 Holiday Update with Smarter Upgrades

Tesla owners always get excited at the end of the year, and 2025 is no different. Tesla is preparing to roll out its annual Holiday Update, a tradition that bundles playful upgrades with meaningful improvements. This year’s release focuses on entertainment, navigation, personalization, and smarter vehicle controls. And even though it’s not the most groundbreaking update in Tesla’s history, it still brings a mix of cool features that will get owners exploring their screens for hours.

The update is expected to start rolling out within the next 24 hours, but not every Tesla will get all features. Hardware limitations matter, especially for cars with older Intel chips. As Tesla puts it every year, “updates may vary by model and region,” and this time, also by processor type. Still, there’s plenty for everyone to enjoy.

Grok Becomes an In-Car Navigator

Tesla’s AI assistant Grok is getting its first major upgrade. It’s no longer just a chatbot sitting inside the car. Now, Grok can help you move through your drive like a smart co-pilot.

With this update, you can say commands like “add a stop” or “change my destination,” and Grok will handle the navigation for you. It works when you set Grok’s personality to “Assistant.” Think of it as hands-free, menu-free navigation.

The best part? Grok will work on both AI3 and AI4 vehicles, so a big chunk of owners will get access. Many automakers are starting to add LLMs inside their cars, and Tesla’s choice to go with xAI’s Grok is unsurprising. Tesla CEO Elon Musk owns both companies, making this integration feel natural.

Supercharger Site Maps: A New 3D Experience

One of the most exciting additions is the introduction of 3D Supercharger site maps. For the first time, Tesla owners can actually see detailed layouts of selected Supercharger stations.

You can tap “View Site Map” during navigation or after arriving at a Supercharger to see:

  • Stall positions

  • Nearby facilities

  • Live occupancy with status colors

This feature launches as a pilot at 18 stations—17 in California, 1 in Texas. It’s expected to require the AMD Ryzen processor, which means cars with older Intel chips might miss out.

These maps help you plan your stop better, especially if you’ve ever pulled into a crowded station wondering which stalls are fastest or free.

Dashcam Viewer Gets Telemetry Overlays

Tesla owners have requested this upgrade for years. The Dashcam Viewer will now display additional telemetry directly on the footage. That includes:

  • Current vehicle speed

  • Steering wheel angle

  • Driving state (Autopilot or FSD status)

This data gives context to clips and is especially useful during claims, misunderstandings, or safety reviews. Tesla owners often share dashcam clips online, and telemetry will help viewers understand what the car was doing—and whether Autopilot was active.

Tesla recently updated the AI3 viewer, so this new version may be available on both AI3 and AI4 platforms.

Navigation Gets Smarter

Navigation gets multiple quality-of-life improvements that make everyday driving smoother.

You can now:

  • Reorder your navigation favorites

  • Set Home and Work anywhere using dropped pins

  • View suggested destinations based on travel habits while parked

  • Let the car automatically suggest HOV lane use based on local rules

These changes make the system feel more personal and less robotic. It pays attention to what you do and adjusts accordingly.

Charging Upgrades for More Control

Charging features also received meaningful updates. Drivers can now set location-specific charge limits. This means your car will remember how much to charge when you plug in at certain places. No more adjusting settings every night.

Cybertruck owners also get an option to toggle wireless charging pads from the touchscreen. This helps save power or avoid unnecessary heating.

New Toybox Features to Play With

Tesla is known for the fun stuff, and the Holiday Update doesn’t disappoint.

Tesla Photobooth

Your car becomes a mini photo studio.
You can take selfies inside the cabin using filters and stickers, then share them directly via the Tesla app. It’s made for hanging out while parked.

Santa Mode Upgrade

The classic holiday mode gets animated snow, holiday characters, and a fresh lock jingle. It’s a small update, but fans will love it.

SpaceX ISS Docking Simulator

Gamers can try a 3D docking simulator based on real NASA astronaut controls.
You pilot a spacecraft and attempt to dock with the ISS. It’s available under Arcade > SpaceX ISS Docking Simulator.

Custom Wraps and Plates

Previously exclusive to Cybertruck, drivers can now tweak how their car appears in the UI using:

  • Wraps

  • Window tints

  • License plates

You can even upload your own designs using a USB. Access it via Toybox > Paint Shot.

Dog Mode Gets Smarter

If you use Dog Mode, your iPhone will now show periodic cabin snapshots and temperature updates directly on the lock screen. This gives more peace of mind when leaving pets in the car.

A new Phone Left Behind Chime also helps reduce forgotten devices.

Light Show Update Brings More Glow

Tesla added a new light show for the song “Jingle Rush.”
You can play it instantly or schedule it up to 10 minutes ahead. You can even sync it with friends who own Teslas.

There are extra controls too:

  • Interior lighting adjustments

  • Display color effects

  • Longer custom light shows

Holiday meetups are about to get dramatic.

Music, Apps, and Interface Improvements

Tesla added smaller, convenience-focused upgrades:

  • Add Spotify tracks to the queue directly

  • Scroll large playlists without lag

  • Enjoy rainbow accent lights during Rave Cave

  • Use a Tron-style Light Cycle lock sound

These features don’t change how you drive. But they definitely change how you vibe. Tesla’s 2025 Holiday Update may not be revolutionary, but it packs a satisfying mix of tools, fun, and personalization. Younger drivers will enjoy the gaming, effects, and UI customization. Tech-minded owners will appreciate Grok’s deeper car integration and the improved Dashcam telemetry. Seasonal Tesla updates have become less about giant new apps and more about polishing the whole experience.

And as Tesla says through its annual tradition, “It’s that time of year again… to enjoy something new.”
