Tesla just hit a huge milestone. The business has introduced its first batch of V4 Superchargers in China. This is a significant step for the company’s global charging network. China is the world’s largest market for electric automobiles. So it’s understandable that they want to lead the charging game there as well. The company announced the first V4 stations in Shanghai, Chongqing, Gansu, and Zhejiang via a recent social media post. More stations will open soon in locations such as Beijing and Guangdong.
What Makes V4 Superchargers So Special?
The V4 Superchargers are the most advanced chargers the firm has produced thus far. They stand out due to their ability to give extremely fast charging speeds. Each V4 Supercharger can deliver up to 500 kW of power. This is twice the peak power of the previous V3 chargers, which could only produce up to 250 kW.
For the time being, V4 chargers in China will only produce up to 325 kW. This is still fast enough to provide between 168 and 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes. This implies that drivers can spend more time driving rather than waiting. Another interesting feature is the updated design. The V4 chargers include longer charging cables. This makes it easy for vehicles of all sizes and styles to plug in. They also employ CCS connectors, which are prevalent on many electric vehicles. As a result, non-Tesla electric vehicles can also utilize these chargers.
Payment terminals have been installed at V4 stalls in China to improve convenience. Drivers can pay at the station, even if they do not have the app. This makes the charging process faster and easier for everyone.
Opening Doors to Non-Tesla EVs
One major surprise is the new open network strategy. Other electric vehicles in China, such as those manufactured by BYD, Ford, and GM, can also utilize the V4 Superchargers. This helps to alleviate “range anxiety.” That is the anxiety of running out of power without a charger handy. The company makes it easy for everyone to drive an electric vehicle by allowing additional cars to access its network.
The first batch of V4 Superchargers are online. Covering more service areas, high-speed charging is more convenient… The company will accompany you to the mountains, rivers, lakes, and seas with pure electricity!
China’s EV Charging Race
They are not alone in China’s charging struggle. BYD, a local behemoth, plans to introduce “megawatt” chargers. These claim to extend 400 km of range in just five minutes. They intend to create up to 15,000 apartments. Li Auto is another formidable rival. They already have over 2,400 supercharging stations and aim to cover 90% of China’s major roadways by the end of 2025.
So what gives the company the advantage? First, the charging network is massive. They have over 70,000 Superchargers globally, including over 11,000 stalls in China alone. Second, they are building V4 chargers in Shanghai. This means speedier deployment and cheaper expenses. Each station costs less than $40,000 to construct. Additionally, the stations are now open to other EVs, making their network even more valuable.
The launch of V4 Superchargers in China is a big deal. It means faster charging, better coverage, and less stress about finding a charger. The company wants to make sure EV drivers can travel freely—“to the mountains, rivers, lakes, and seas.”
With this step, the company proves it is serious about leading the EV revolution, not just in cars but in charging too. China’s roads are about to get a lot more electric—and a lot more connected.
China’s electric vehicle charging race is heating up. The new V4 Superchargers demonstrate how the firm is moving forward. The company is changing the game by expanding its network to include other brands. More charges. Faster speeds. More freedom. That is the future they intend to create—one charge at a time.
