Tesla updates the intelligent automatic windscreen wiper and the intelligent alarm.

Tesla has long been at the forefront of automotive technology, constantly pushing the boundaries and introducing cutting-edge features through software updates. While Tesla’s software is widely recognised as some of the best in the industry, there is always room for improvement. Automatic windscreen wipers and Smart Summon are two features that have been criticised for working inconsistently. Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently released an update to these features, promising improvements that will enhance the experience of Tesla owners.

Inconsistent car wipers and the need for improvement

Inconsistent operation of the auto wipers has been a source of discomfort for Tesla owners. They complained that the wipers would come on even when it wasn’t raining, with no way to cancel them when Autopilot was active. Aware of these problems, Elon Musk has said that the automatic windscreen wipers and Smart Summon need to be improved to provide a more reliable and user-friendly experience.

Elon Musk has previously mentioned the ongoing work of Tesla’s Autopilot/AI team to develop features such as Summon and Autopark. While the launch of the amusingly truncated feature, “(Actually) Smart Summon”, is still on the cards, Elon Musk has assured Tesla consumers that improvements are coming. According to Musk, the (Actually) Smart Auto Wiper will be available in three weeks, followed by the patented “(Actually) Smart Summon” feature in a month or two.

Confirmation from Elon Musk

Elon Musk has confirmed on Twitter that the Actually Smart automatic windscreen wipers will be available soon. Responding to a user comment on FSD beta 11.4.4, Elon Musk said that software updates for the ‘Actually Smart’ automatic windscreen wipers would be available in three weeks. He also acknowledged previous shortcomings in the performance of the automatic wipers. He said Tesla was updating neural networks to improve rain recognition using surround vision, allowing a more complete understanding of weather conditions.

The enhanced version of Smart Summon could include Park Seek. Park Seek, formerly known as Reverse Summon, allows a Tesla to drop off its passengers and park itself.

Tesla enthusiast @greentheonly recently claimed that the new wiper system is already available under the bonnet in recent versions of the FSD, so it could soon be available to everyone in an upcoming beta.

The difference between Tesla summon and smart summon

Tesla offers two distinct features, Smart Summon and Summon, each with its own capabilities and functions.

Summon is a feature that allows a Tesla Model 3 to move up to 12 metres forwards or backwards, a handy parking aid. Summon allows the vehicle to be moved remotely into or out of a parking space, making it easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces.

Smart Summon , meanwhile, is available on certain Tesla models and completes Summon’s basic movement functions. Tesla owners can use Smart Summon to instruct their vehicle to travel longer distances while manoeuvring autonomously around obstacles. This feature allows the vehicle to locate the owner’s location or be directed to a specific destination.

Elon Musk’s update on automatic windscreen wipers and Smart Summon updates demonstrates Tesla’s commitment to continuous improvement. These upcoming updates will resolve inconsistencies observed by Tesla owners, improving the driving experience and demonstrating Tesla’s commitment to providing industry-leading features and functions. Tesla owners can look forward to an even better driving experience with “truly intelligent” automatic windscreen wipers and improved Smart Summon.
