Tesla Yoke Steering: Awaiting the Horn Upgrade

Tesla Yoke Steering: Awaiting the Horn Upgrade

Tesla Model S and Model X owners eagerly awaiting the airbag horn on their yoke steering wheels have reason to anticipate its imminent arrival. Evidence of this long-awaited feature has surfaced in the source code of the latest software update.

A Tesla Yoke Steering Wheel

The introduction of the yoke steering wheel was one of the significant changes made by Tesla in the 2021 refresh design for the Model S and Model X. Instead of using a traditional spherical wheel; Tesla used a futuristic yoke design. A new age of vehicle control began when the gear and turn signal stalks were replaced at the same time by touch controls on the steering wheel.

On the other hand, the new yoke design presented certain difficulties. Although the airbag remained in the center, Tesla moved the horn to a touch button, confusing drivers used to the conventional arrangement. Finding the horn soon became a regular problem, especially when things needed to happen right away. Overcoming the muscle memory of automatically striking the middle of the yoke proved difficult.

Tesla: User Feedback Sparks Change

Responding to user feedback, Tesla initially suggested covering all buttons on the right side of the yoke to activate the horn. Elon Musk, the CEO, eventually admitted that there was room for improvement and revealed at the beginning of 2022 that every Model S/X manufactured after November 2021 had a “push center horn” feature. However, its activation awaited a software update.

Although two years have passed since Elon Musk’s announcement, the anticipated software update has remained elusive. Tesla enthusiasts have anxiously awaited the activation of the promised “push center horn.”

A Hint of Hope

Thanks to recent developments in the 2023.44.30.8 software update’s source code, there’s hope discovered by well-known Tesla hacker @greentheonly. A “mechanical horn” made especially for the Model S and Model X is mentioned in the code.

Anticipating the Unveiling

The past indicates that such features might not be available to users for a few weeks or months despite the excitement this finding has aroused. The “mechanical horn” feature is something that Tesla enthusiasts are excited to see implemented soon. Tesla enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the swift implementation of the “mechanical horn” feature, adding a crucial element to the unique yoke steering experience.

Finally, the wait for the airbag horn in Tesla’s yoke steering wheel may end, relieving Model S and Model X customers who have yearned for this critical safety feature.
