When building an aerodynamic wheel, the key is to design a wheel that moves as little air as necessary. Conversely, a turbo fan is designed to move as much air as possible.

Air friction is proportional to the square of the velocity between an object and the air, for example, twice the velocity results in four times the friction and four times the energy consumption. Let's imagine the wheel of a car rolling, the tire touching the ground at zero speed in the air. The center of the wheel has the same speed as the car. This means that the top of the wheel has twice the speed of the car.

Thus, the critical part of the aerodynamic wheel is the surface where the wheel interacts with the air coming from the front of the vehicle. It is important to keep this surface as smooth and closed as possible.

The second determining factor is the resistance created by the rotation of the wheel. A fan requires more energy to rotate than a disc. With this in mind, we made sure that the inside of the impeller is flat and smooth and that the ventilation holes are formed in such a way that they do not displace the air. The manufacturing technique also allows us to have the left and right wheel facing the car, without creating lateral force and achieving a symmetrical and elegant wake effect behind the car.

Last but not least, the weight of the wheels has an impact on their efficiency, especially during acceleration and braking. A forged wheel typically weighs 25 to 30 percent less than a cast wheel of the same design. However, it's not as simple as putting the wheel on a ladder. A mass away from the center of rotation is worse than a mass near the center. Compare this to a figure skater who has her arms in a pirouette. When she pulls her arms in, she will suddenly start spinning faster even though she has not added any energy.

When developing the Model S, Tesla turned to EXA for computational fluid dynamics (think "virtual wind tunnel"). We 3D scanned the Model S equipped with the OEM Turbine wheel and provided it to EXA to use as a reference. EXA's simulation results indicate that our wheel, the Razor™, reduces the resistance of the entire car by 9.9%. Lateral force is reduced by 94%, and the Turbine wheel has an inherent asymmetric upward force of 28% compared to the TNA Razor™ wheel. This is achieved by considering aerodynamics throughout the wheel design process.

We have tried to make it more convenient for you. Our TNA wheels have identical mounting specifications to the corresponding Tesla wheel and the original lug nuts and center cap can be used. In addition, our wheels have UN ECE-R124 type approval, which means they are approved for use in all participating countries without paperwork, but you can always print the documents below and put them in your glove box. Authenticity:

Every authentic TNA wheel is laser etched with a circled E3 followed by the number of approval, located inside the ventilation hole opposite to the refilling cap. Left and right wheel has unique approval numbers since our wheels are directional.
